The cemetery in Margraten, unlike other military cemeteries, was never a battlefield where soldiers fought. They merely found their final resting place there. Despite or because of this, the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial is a momentous site on the so-called Liberation Route Europe: an ever-expanding international remembrance route that connects milestones from modern European history. The route forms a link between the main regions during the advance of the Allied Forces and crosses the national borders which have divided our continent for too long.
On the website www.liberationroute.nl you can view the route and then travel along (part of) it yourself.
